Sermon 140

Sermon 140 – The Triumphal Entry

📖 Sermon 140 – The Triumphal Entry

Date: [no date given]
Text: Luke 19:28–40

Introduction

Jesus approaches Jerusalem for the final week of His earthly ministry. He enters the city not on a war horse but on a borrowed colt — a symbol of meekness and peace. Yet the crowds praise Him as King. This event reveals His true kingship and the nature of His Kingdom.

I. The Preparation for the Entry

A. Jesus sends two disciples
He knows exactly where the colt is tied.

B. The owners yield it willingly
“The Lord hath need of him.”

C. Everything happens as Jesus foretold
A display of divine authority.

II. The King’s Humble Entrance

A. They set Jesus on the colt
A fulfillment of prophecy: “Behold, thy King cometh… lowly, and riding upon an ass.”

B. The people spread garments in the way
A sign of honor and submission.

C. The whole multitude rejoices
They praise God for the mighty works they had seen.

D. They cry, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord!”
A confession of His Messiahship.

III. The Pharisees’ Objection

A. “Master, rebuke Thy disciples”
They resent His royal claims.

B. Jesus’ answer
“If these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” Creation itself recognizes its King.

IV. The Meaning of the Entry

A. Christ presents Himself as King
But not a worldly king — a Savior-King.

B. His kingdom is spiritual
He conquers not nations but hearts.

C. His path leads not to a throne but to a cross
He secures His kingdom by sacrifice.

Conclusion

The Triumphal Entry invites us to receive Jesus as King — not with passing excitement, but with true submission of heart. He comes in meekness, yet He reigns in majesty. Let us honor Him, obey Him, and follow Him to the cross and to the crown.
