📖 Sermon 157 – Preparing the Passover

Text: Luke 22:7–13
Introduction
The day of unleavened bread arrives, when the Passover must be killed. Jesus sends Peter and John to make preparation for the meal He will eat with His disciples. Their obedience shows the nature of true discipleship — trusting Christ’s word even when details are hidden.
A. “Then came the day…”
A divinely appointed time.
B. “The Passover must be killed”
A reminder of redemption by blood.
C. Christ keeps the law perfectly even as He fulfills it
A. “Go and prepare us the Passover”
A clear command from the Master.
B. The disciples’ question:
“Where wilt Thou that we prepare?”
A willingness to obey,
seeking only direction.
C. Jesus gives specific instructions
A. “A man bearing a pitcher of water”
A distinctive, unusual sight,
easily recognized.
B. “Follow him…”
Obedience without argument.
C. “Say unto the goodman of the house…”
Christ has already arranged
the place and the moment.

Exactly suited to the need.
B. “There make ready”
Human obedience works
within divine provision.
C. The disciples “went, and found as He had said”
Christ’s word is always fulfilled.
Conclusion
This passage teaches the beauty of simple obedience. Peter and John did not know all the details, but they trusted Christ’s word and acted upon it. So must every disciple walk — following the Master’s voice, confident that He goes before us and prepares the way.
