📖 Sermon 159 – The New Covenant in His Blood

Introduction
At the close of the Passover meal, Jesus gives new meaning to the bread and the cup. He institutes the Lord’s Supper — a memorial of His sacrifice, a proclamation of His death, and a seal of the new covenant established in His blood.
A. “He took bread…”
A common element
invested with divine meaning.
B. “…and gave thanks”
Gratitude even as He faces the cross.
C. “This is My body
which is given for you”
His life offered in substitution
for sinners.
D. “This do in remembrance of Me”
A continual memorial
of His saving work.

The Supper looks back to the cross
and forward to His coming.
Conclusion
The institution of the Lord’s Supper reveals the heart of the Gospel — Christ’s body given, His blood shed, a new covenant made for the salvation of His people. Let us draw near in faith, remembering Him until He comes.
