📖 SERMON 207 — THE GOSPEL: THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION
Preacher: Rev. G. S. Kok
Date:
Scripture: Romans 1:16–17
Subject: THE GOSPEL — THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION
INTRODUCTION
Paul glories in the gospel. Though many despised it, he was not ashamed. Neither were the believers in Rome. The gospel had reached them, saved them, and strengthened them. Paul explains why he is not ashamed.
1. It is God’s power — not man’s idea, not a human philosophy.
2. It works mightily wherever it is preached.
3. It transforms lives.
4. It accomplishes what no earthly power can accomplish — salvation.
1. Salvation from sin’s guilt.
2. Salvation from sin’s dominion.
3. Salvation from death and eternal destruction.
4. Salvation unto life, righteousness, and eternal communion with God.
1. No distinction of Jew or Greek.
2. Not of works, not of merit, but of faith.
3. Faith is the God-given instrument by which the gift is received.
1. Not man’s righteousness but God’s righteousness.
2. Revealed in Christ, fulfilled by Christ, and given through Christ.
3. Received only by faith — from faith to faith.
4. As it is written: “The just shall live by faith.”
CONCLUSION
Are you ashamed of the gospel?
Do you believe it?
Have you received the righteousness of God?
Without it, none shall stand.
